Drive from Wanaka to Queenstown December 14
Thursday, May 25th, Early Morning
On thursday we got up really early to drive to Queenstown for our plane tour. It had snowed some during the night in the upper elevations, and we were going through one of the highest roads in New Zealand. We were a little worried that we might not be able to make it through the pass, but we got through ok and made it in plenty of time for our tour.
This is at the Queenstown end of the road, by this time we had made it through the high pass and we are on our way down to the valley around Queenstown. This road that we are on is really steep, with lots of switchbacks down the side of this mountain. It wasn’t fun to drive with possibly icy roads, but it gave us some great views.
Looks stright towards Queenstown
Another view of the valley
This is Arrowtown
This was a winery down in the valley. It looked like a great place to stop and have lunch in the summer.
