Cairns October 10
Wednesday, May 31 - Late Afternoon
Cairns was a fun town. Lots of hotels and shops and people from all over. Unfortunately, we did not get to spend a whole lot of time here. Just 2 nights with the second night being extremley short, since we had to get up at 4am to get to the airport to fly down to Sydney. But I really did enjoy what we say in Cairns. Everything was laid back and there were lots of people about at all hours. I did not take a lot of pictures in Cairns because we got back midafternoon, and after crashing in the room for an hour or so went walking around for a couple of hours before meeting a bunch of the people from the diveboat at a restaurant for some fun.
This is down at the beach area in front of the hotels and shops. They had these neat fish sculptures up above a wading pool. The tide was out so there were pretty much sand/mud flats going out a ways before you hit ocean water.
Just a picture from a concrete dock extending out into the water. There were some really really really big boats parked in the marina right next to downtown.
A look across the little bay/harbor right in front of Cairns. Downtown is directly to the left.
This is a picture to the left of the previous one and shows some of the hotels.
Just a random picture I took at the restaurant that we ate at that night. They had a nice open air courtyard out back that we sat at for a while with some tiki torches.
