Sydney Botannical Gardens July 30
Friday, June 2 - Midafternoon
Next on our walking tour of Sydney were the Royal Botannical gardens. These gardens run from the Opera house along the harbor for a ways and also back towards downtown. Unfortunately, it was still drizzling and overcast, but we did enjoyour walk through here.
Just a picture looking towards the downtown skyline from the gardens.
This was some sort of garden castle. Unfortunately the were having some official event there while we were there so we could not tour the building. We did stop at the gate and chat with the guard for a minute.
Just a close up of the building
This is a really cool palm grove that was on one of the paths. The palms were really tall, the picture dosen’t that good a job of showing the scale.
A picture overlooking part of the gardens, you can see the harbor in the background.
These were taken in the flower and herb gardens. There wasn’t a whole lot blooming as it was technically heading into winter there (although the 80 degree temps would have led you to believe otherwise) but there were a few plants with flowers.
A neat stone fountain. The water comes out fro underneath the plug at the top.
This was a neat sundial. There was a plaque near the dial that explained it, there are 30 carved flowers and plants on the rim of the sundial. Check out the next picture for a close up.
Here you can see the close up and the carvings of the plants.
Just one of the paths along the herb garden.
Some more flowers in the herb garden.
Just a palm tree.
This was along one of the paths we were walking on.
One of the ponds in the gardens.
More flowers.
This was pretty neat. This was one of the directional signs in the gardens and there were all of these pigeons sitting on the signs, but they must have been puffed out about twice as big as they really were to try and keep the rain off. It was a funny sight.
This was in a building and had a little path and talked about all of the different types of ferns in Australia.
