Skyrail Part 2 September 18
Thursday, June 1 - Late Afternoon
This was the second part of our skyrail trip. I am breaking this into 2 posts because I have a lot of pictures that I like so I am including all of them and there were too many for just one post. Here they are:
This is the base of one of the towers. I think the tallest tower was something like 190 feet up.
This is looking down at some of the trees in the jungle. These things were massive. These trees were easily 60-70feet if not more. It was really neat looking down in between them and seeing the jungle floor.
Just a view looking back up along the cables.
A view in the opposite direction along the cables.
This is at our second stop. You can really see how dense the vegetation is and how hard it would be to move through this stuff.
This was a tree right off our walking path. This picture does not do the tree justice. The trunk is probably 7-8 feet in diameter. The lowest part of the trunk in the picture is probably 25-30 feet up.
Just a view across the jungle from the path.
This was after we got back on the skyrail and started back down towards the highlands. That is the ocean between the land and the clouds.
It was a pretty steep trip down.
These were some of the cliffs that we came over on our way down. The jungle covers almost all of the exposed rock.
This is a good view of the lower canopy. Most of the ferns and things that you see are still a ways off the jungle floor.
Another view of the lowlands near the ocean.
This is where we finally start dropping below tree level. There were vines and creepers everywhere.
This is a view of Cairns. We had to take a bus to get back once we got off of the skyrail.
This is us nearing the station. The big pond just to the left of the cables was a wakeboard/skiing lake. They had a cable that ran around the lake with tow ropes dangling from it. All you had to do was grab a rope and hang on. It was pretty interesting to watch.
Once we got off of the skyrail we took a bus back to Cairns. We ate and headed to bed early since we had a 6am flight and had to catch the coach about 4:30 in the morning to fly to Sydney.
