Mt Victoria January 2
Tuesday, May 22rd, Late Morning
After heading back to downtown Wellington we decided to drive around a bit and go up to Mt Victoria, a very large hill right next to downtown. The views from the crest of the hill allow you to see the entire city, and there are numerous trails and stops all over the hill. Also they filmed a number of LOTR scenes on this hill.
This is a scene from the first LOTR movie. This was where the hobbits hid as they were fleeing the shire. This scene is easy to spot in the film because it is where the hobbits hide under the roots of a tree when a black rider stops directly above them. The tree and the roots in that scene were all artificial and were brought in just for that shot.
These two pictures show us sitting where the hobbits crouched in the scene.
This is a view from the top of the hill. I did a 360 panaramic and took pictures from every angle. This is showing near downtown
