Red Rocks and Seal Colony January 14
Tuesday, May 22rd, Early Early Morning
We got up pretty early on tuesday to go out to the southern part of Wellington to see the Red Rocks and a seal colony. It was about a 5 kilometer walk out and back, but we got there really early and we were the only ones on the path and it was really pretty to see the sun come up over the hills.
This was our car. It was some honda and drove really nice. I don’t think they sell them in the states, but we really liked the car.
This was the view from the parking lot. We walked all the way out around the point you see in the distance.
This is beyond the point mentioned above looking back along the shoreline.
Another view looking back towards the beginning of the sunrise.
Here is Kyle walking in front of me along the trail.
The sunrise came as we walked along the path.
Here are the red rocks.
Here is us checking out the red rocks.
A shot of the rocks at the shoreline.
Here are the first two seals that we saw. The guy on the left must have been asleep or just ignoring us. The guy on the right kept checking us out though. He was pretty funny.
A closeup of the guy on the right.
And again.
And again.
A view of the seals and a container ship in the background.
This was a little gap in the rocks that the trail went through to get to the rest of the seal colony.
There were about a dozen seals on this side of the gap in the rocks. They were a lot more skittish and took off into the water when we got close.
This guy actually started barking at me.
I think I was trying to get a picture of one of the seals as he ran/waddled off.
This is a view through the little cleft in the trail back towards the sunrise
Another view through the cleft.
Just a view of the beach and the waves coming onshore
More waves.
