Sydney Government Buildings July 30
Friday, June 2 - Midafternoon
We started heading home after leaving the botannical gardens. Luckily, our path took us past a few more interesting places before we got back to the hostel. Immediately outside the gardens were a number of the government buildings in Sydney. They didn’t look too busy, but it was a friday. And it was raining. We did see a Bentley (very expensive and rare car) outside of the buildings, but of course I did not take a picture of it.
This is Parliament House. The style of the building just screams ‘Colonial’.
Another picture of Parliament House
This is the statue outside of the Sydney Hospital. Apparently this was one of the main allied hospitals used in WWII and took care of many many soldiers. This as right next door to Parliament House.
Just a picture of the outside of the Hospital. Still more ‘Tropical Colonial’ architecture.
Continuing down the row of buildings we next came upon the Mint. Money is no longer made here, but the building and equipment remain.
A picture of the seal on the Mint gate.
Across the street from the mint was a more modern building, not sure what government offices it housed but it did have this sculpture on the outside of the building.
This is now a museum, but it was originally the Hyde Park Barracks and held troops during WWII.
Another picture of the barracks. Just to the right of the barracks you can see a cathedral and to the right of that is Hyde Park. Check out the next post for more information.
